I loved being in Hawaii and my absolute favorite drink there was a Lava Flow. I finally found a recipe for one in the lastest issue of Cuisine at Home to share with you. Perfect for this hot summer weather! Feel free to experiment and change things to your taste. (Val…I hope you come over to share this with me!)
1 lb. fresh strawberries, hulled
2 cups vanilla ice cream
2 ripe bananas, peeled and chopped (2 cups)
1 1/2 cups pineapple juice
1 1/2 cups cream of coconut (buy it in the can at Albertson’s)
2 cups ice cubes
Puree strawberries in blender until liquefied (you should have 2 cups pureed strawberries). Set puree aside and rinse blender pitcher.
Puree the ice cream, bananas, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut in blender. Add ice and puree until smooth and creamy.
To serve, divide strawberry puree among 8 glasses, then pour 1 cup ice cream mixture into each glass. Swirl slightly with a swizzle stick or spoon.
At 5:00 on Sunday afternoon, July 5th, the ladies of Father’s House will host our annual 4th of July Father’s House Celebration. This is always a fun family time. Proceeds go towards scholarships for our Fall Ladies Retreat. (Note the time change from previous years. It will be cooler at 5:00!)
Hot dogs, hamburgers, beans, chips, drinks, and desserts!
Dessert contest—all ages and genders may participate.
4th of July Kid’s Parade of Colors (red, white, and blue costumes, bikes, wagons, etc. Be creative!)
Face painting, snow cones, a jump house, slip-and-slide and old fashion games such as a diaper derby, watermelon eating contest, water balloon games, races, and a tug of war through the sprinklers!
Your own lawn chairs, shade covers (if you have one), your entry for the Kid’s Parade of Colors if interested, and something for the Dessert Contest, if you choose to enter. Cost: $6.00 for adults and teens, $4.00 for kids (0 to 2 years are free), and the family rate is $25.00 for a single family of 6 or more. (The family rate includes the parents and their own children who are under 18.) Snow cones are also available really cheap! Please buy your tickets in June so we know how much food to provide!
(Please note that taking the poll below does not sign you up, it just gives us an idea of who’s coming.)
I hope you all don’t mind the change. I have my photography site here and the other church sites are here, so this made more sense than Blogspot!
So … This will be a way to communicate with each of you. I hope you’ll all sign up to receive updates to the site (click over on the right), either that, or check back often to see what’s going on.
If you have something you’d like me to post here, just let me know. If you have comments on anything we post here, feel free! This is our page and I want everyone to jump in to the fun!
Looking forward to blogging with each of you!
