Definitely Not Your Mr. Rogers’ Kind of Jesus

Definitely Not Your Mr. Rogers' Kind of Jesus

Hey hey, ladies! We’ve got a New Year ahead of us and a new theme: Discover the Jesus You Never Knew.

You know, the Jesus who doesn’t always say stuff like “Let’s do coffee and chat.”

This Jesus says off-the-wall things like:

Go and sin no more. (Excuse me! Is that politically correct to say?)

Follow me and let the dead bury their dead. (Where’s the compassion?)

Are you so dense? (Isn’t this offensive and devaluing?)

Get behind me Satan. (Would you say that to one of your best friends?)

This Jesus gathers children on his lap, throws tables upside down in the temple courts, and has the reputation of a “wine-bibber and a glutton.” (He hangs with the party crowd.)

This is not your flannel-graph Jesus.

This is the God who became little to become great. This is the man who celebrates his humanity and invites you to dance with him. This is the guy who chose his disciples because he wanted to be with them—he needed friends (see Mark 3:14).

This is the man who changes ordinary people into change-the-world courageous adventurers.

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus (Acts 4:13).

Who is this guy that so changes the people who hang out with him that others are astonished?

I’m an ordinary person. I want people to “take note” that I hang with Jesus. I want adventure. It’s time I discovered the Jesus I’ve never known.

Next Sunday, January 5th at 6:00 we will be introducing our 2014 theme, our team, and some new Bible Studies, Hang-Outs, and other upcoming adventures for 2014.

You really don’t want to miss it.
